38th Parallel - Line that divided North and South Korea along with the purpose of being a Military Demarcation Line to prevent the occurrence of hostile issues between the two countries in the future
Inchon - A port on the West Coast of Korea. On September 15, 1950, MacArthur made a surprise amphibious landing here which allowed his X Corps to retake Seoul and the rest of South Korea Manchuria - A valuable industrial and agricultural center, Manchuria lies to the north of Korea, and has variously belonged to Imperial China, Imperial Russia, the Soviet Union, Japan, and the People's Republic of China. Valuable city during the Korean War Demilitarized Zone - A region on the Korean peninsula that demarcates North Korea from South Korea. Roughly along the 38th parallel, the zone is 150 miles long and 2.5 miles wide. Absolutely no soldiers or any type of military equipment are allowed in this zone. United Nations - The UN became involved in the war once North Korea invaded South Korea in 1950. Following the invasion, 21 members of the UN committed themselves to support South Korea, however South Korea was not yet a part of the UN. |
